Legendary noise band CHERUBS has released their 4th full length LP with Relapse Records on July 26th. For those of you, like myself who are just now finding this band, prepare yourselves. This album is a wall of distorted sludge pop slathered in fuzzy bass hooks, pounding drums, and ear penetrating shrieks. Truly a noise-heads dream. I hear a little bit of everything in this album. Sludge metal, psychedelic rock, indie, shoegaze, grunge, noise, post punk, etc.. (FFO: Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats, Whores, Crystal Fairy, etc.)
Cherubs originally formed the year of 1991 in Austin, Texas. Their first album Icing was recorded at Smart Studio's in Madison, Wisconsin and was released in 1992 through Trance Syndicate. Smart Studio's in Wisconsin is known for recording with band's such as Nirvana, Laughing Hyenas, Smashing Pumpkins, L7, and many more. Cherubs 2nd album Heroin Man was released in 1994. The album name, is a direct reference to a close friend of the band at the time who had died of an overdose. The band broke up before the album was released. A 1996 compilation album of unreleased songs entitled Short of Popular was the band's final release with Trance Syndicate. Thankfully the band reunited 20 years later in 2014 and released their 3rd studio album 2 YNFYNYTY with Brutal Panda records in 2015. The EP Fist in The Air was released in 2016, leading up to them being signed with Relapse Records and the release of Immaculada High this year.
